SOHAM GRAMMARIANS – REUNION EVENING
SATURDAY 9th OCTOBER 2004

It is time to bring to your notice our plans for the 2004 Reunion and to hope that you will be able to attend, building on last year’s increase in numbers attending. This notice is being sent by email or post and we apologise if there is duplication - please advise of any address corrections.

The success of our ever growing website www.sohamgrammar.org.uk has been remarkable, with thousands of visits recorded. If you have not visited it recently, do so soon and set aside time to enjoy a nostalgic trip through school stories, photographs and history.

But there is no substitute for the ‘real’ thing, so please resolve to mark your diary now to join us at Beechurst Hall to meet old friends and adversaries over school dinner (beef this year!) in the comfortable atmosphere of shared reminiscences. Our principal Guest Speaker will be Gordon Hemmings (English and Drama 1958-66), who we are delighted to welcome back, not only to the Reunion, but to reside in Ely.

Beechurst Hall will be open after the Tree dedication (see below), with bar facilities and sensibly priced wine available, with Dinner called at 7.30 for 7.45pm. Dress is not formal; a jacket or blazer and tie are the usual standard, but should not be a bar to the moderns who possess neither jacket nor tie (or, indeed, dress). Interest has been expressed in sourcing school ties and, possibly, crests as now all past stock has been exhausted.

Recent tradition has made each reunion self-supporting with any surplus funds donated appropriately; from 2003 provisions have been made for amendments to the School’s ‘In Memoriam’ Book and for the Edward Armitage Memorial Tree. The Tree will be dedicated just before the Reunion in a short service, in which Peter Askem will take part, commencing at 6pm sharp on the old tennis lawn. If you are attending the dedication please arrive by 5.50pm. The bar will open after the dedication (approx. 6.15pm).
Regards, Chris Bent
