Soham Grammarians - Mr CE Atkinson, Music 1956-57

Soham Grammarian New Year 1956

This term we welcome Mr Atkinson, Mr Pusey's successor, who comes to us from Bottisham Village College ..

Soham Grammarian Summer 1957

Mr. Atkinson joined the Staff at the beginning of 1956 and is now moving to the Tamar Secondary Technical School, Plymouth.

In his brief stay with us he has been able to score two musical successes with the Carol Service last Christmas and The Pirates of Penzance this Easter.

His legal training has been a vast asset to the Staff, we suspect, and we hope his pleasant innovation of a piano voluntary before Prayers will remain as a tradition now, one which will remind us often of him and of his brilliant gift of musical improvisation, well exemplified by his delightful variations on the theme of Happy Birthday to You on the morning of Miss Lowe's birthday presentation.

16 Jan 2008: Terry Jones English 1955-57 writes: Cecil Atkinson, who became a priest and moved to Devon, is also dead. His wife and I exchanged Christmas cards for some years but she is also now dead.
