Soham Grammarians - Mr Meneer

Soham Grammarian Spring 1949

We have, however, gained a master, and we wish Mr Meneer, who has already made his presence felt, a happy stay.

Welcome to Mr Meneer, who joined us this term to take up the duties of Latin master in place of Mr Lowe.

Mr Meneer is departing this term and we wish him every happiness in his pastures new.

Fred Eden 44: Mr Meneer's favourite sentence to parse was: "He goes to church on Sundays and sits amongst the girls." If you couldn't parse sentences like this he remarked "You ch-ch-chaps are not worth a s-s-s-s-strawberry".

He did take us on occasions for English when Bish was unavailable but often forgetting what he had asked us to do before. His punishment was a dig in the ribs with the knuckle of his index finger - quite painful.
