Soham Grammarian Summer 1964
CRICKET NOTES, 1964
For Chapman, the captain of the First XI, nine of last season's Eleven were available at the start of the term, so we were able to look forward with some confidence to a successful season.
Our great loss was David Register, who bowled so continuously and well last season, but we have found a sound replacement in R Pearson, who has so far bowled with considerable skill.
We have, at the time of writing, played four games - won two, drawn one, and lost one (to Newport Grammar School after a declaration).
Rosbrook and Bussingham show great promise with the bat, and Newell has usually given us a good start. Rosbrook's fifty at Saffron Walden was a most praiseworthy effort, and is an indication of things to come.
Newstead and Pearson have so far borne the brunt of the bowling ; they have a hard job ahead of them, but both are dedicated cricketers, and they will stick to their task. Walker is making a good captain of the Second XI, and the Under 14's are making steady progress.
