SOCCER NOTES
With a goodly number of old Colours again available at the beginning of term our hopes ran high for another successful season. Nor were they dashed by subsequent performances. All our school matches were won with the exception of a draw at Bury St Edmunds, and this year we beat the Old Boys in a real thriller at the end of last term.
The team was slow in settling down; indeed, we were experimenting until half-term, but finally after Christie had secured the outside right position, we never looked back.
The forward line had plenty of punch provided mainly by Yardy and Darby; Munns did most of the scheming, and their combined efforts were well rounded off by Parish, an outstanding centre forward. Perhaps the main strength of the team lay in the half back line of Clark, Ward (Captain) and Morley, all three experienced players. Barber and Rule were two resolute full backs, and Bailey kept a good goal for the second year running.
The Second XI won all their matches under the able captaincy of Holmes, and Chapman J and his Under 14's were defeated only once - incidentally the only loss suffered during the term by any team.
The Under 15's at the time of going to press have reached the semi final of the Fordham trophy
Once again a sincere 'thank you' to all referees and linesmen who render such valuable and willing service.
