THE SOCCER SEASON

This year, team-building presented far fewer difficulties than last, and by the end of October, when the inside-forward positions had been filled, the First XI had settled down into a useful combination. The Old Colours were all defence men, and a glance at the number of goals scored against us indicates how well Bailey, Hicks and Taylor have performed at all times. Taylor, in particular, at centre-half has been a tower of strength, and luckily he will be back with us next year to take over the captaincy from Bailey.

Stearn at full-back and Chapman at half have proved themselves; Chapman has been extremely useful, playing equally well at half or full-back.

Plenty of goals have been scored, perhaps not as many as should have been, which pays tribute to a new forward line. Houghton and Poole have shown speed and agression on the wings, and the two inside-forwards, Aves and Burling, have given them the necessary support.

Munns has really led the attack and has rounded off much of the good work of the other forwards ; he is always looking for a goal, and once or twice he has converted what looked like an impossible chance.

During the season, Cross, and later Houghton, sustained injuries which kept them out of the team for some time, but both are well on the way to recovery.

For the record, two matches were lost, one against Newmarket and the other against Bury, and our congratulations go to both these Schools.

The Second XI have continued on their winning way, the only set-back being at Thetford, where they lost 3-2. The Under-14's, under the direction of Mr Bozeat, were unbeaten ; they, have played good football and provided great enjoyment for all those who have seen them.

The Under-15's too have lost no matches, and it would appear that these two Junior XI's will provide some interesting First XI's in the not too-distant future.
