SPEECH DAY

DISTRIBUTION OF
PRIZES AND CERTIFICATES

by

THE RIGHT REVEREND
THE LORD BISHOP OF ELY

Wednesday, November 4th, 1942.

___________

Chairman:

Alderman S Moore, JP

(Chairman of the Governors).

HYMN

Praise, my soul, the King of heaven;
To His feet thy tribute bring.
Ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven,
Who like me His praise should sing?
Praise Him ! Praise Him !
Praise the everlasting King.

Praise Him for His grace and favour
To our fathers in distress;
Praise Him still the same for ever,
Slow to chide, and swift to bless.
Praise Him ! Praise Him !
Glorious in His faithfulness.

Father-like, He tends and spares us;
Well our feeble frame He knows;
In His Hands He gently bears us,
Rescues us from all our foes.
Praise Him ! Praise Him !
Widely as His mercy flows.

Angels, help us to adore Him
Ye behold Him face to face;
Sun and moon, bow down before Him;
Dwellers all in time and space.
Praise Him ! Praise Him !
Praise with us the God of grace.

The Chairman.

The Headmaster.

Distribution of Prizes and Certificates.

Address by the Lord Bishop of Ely.

Lower School. Viking Song. S. Coleridge-Taylor

Clang, clang, clang on the anvil,
In the smithy by the dark North Sea;
Is it Thor that is smiting with the hammer ?
Is it Odin with the leather on his knee ?
Clang, clang, clang on the anvil,
There are steel ships wanted on the sea !

Clang, clang, clang on the anvil,
And the flames of the forges leap.
Old Thor, with his red beard glowing,
Has his eyes on the furrows of the deep.
Clang, clang, clang on the anvil,
For the forge, the forge of the Viking may not sleep !

Clang, clang, clang on the anvil,
And the hammers of the island leap;
Britannia with her bright hair glowing,
Has her eye on the furrows of the deep.
Clang, clang, clang on the anvil,
For the blood, the blood of the Viking may not sleep.

Clang, clang, clang on the anvil,
On the margin of the soul-bright sea,
Is it Odin that is watching in the shadow ?
Is it Thor where the sparks fly free ?
Clang, clang, clang on the anvil,
There are steel ships wanted on the sea.
Clang, clang, clang, clang, clang !

The National Anthem.

The King.

God save our Gracious King,
Long live our noble King,
God save the King!
Send him victorious,
Happy and glorious,
Long to reign over us;
God save the King !

The Motherland.

One realm of races four,
Blest ever more and more,
God save our land !
Home of the brave and free,
Set in the silver sea,
True nurse of chivalry,
God save our land !

The Empire.

Of many race and birth
One Empire, wide as earth,
As ocean wide,
Brothers in war and peace,
Brothers that war may cease;
God who hath given increase,
Still guard and guide.

Accompanist - CW CROUCH, ARCM
