Alan Diver 40 writes: My brother Joe (full name Joseph Arthur Diver) attended the SGS annual dinners for many years from his home in Cambridge. Here are two photos of SGS teams in which he played.
We had Mr. Bish Johnson for English in Form 2. He also took us in the Upper 5th prior to taking School Certificate. Bish was a nice, kindly teacher. The first time he saw me he said Are you related to Joe Diver?. Yes I said, he is my brother. He remembered him as a very good footballer, who was later 'head hunted' by some 'scout'; was found a job at Pye's in Cambridge and played for Cambridge City Football Club for I don't know how long. He was also a very good cricketer and appears on the 1924 SGS first eleven cricket team photo below.
Joe was 20 years older than me so must have gone to SGS maybe in 1920. He died in about 2002.
Looking at Chris Bents notes, and photographs of Jack Lockwoods Colours Cap and 1927-28 athletic medals, Jack Lockwood was another good sportsman in the later 1920s/early30s. J
Another brother, the late Reginald Diver, also went to SGS - he was two years older than Joe - as did a nephew of mine, William (Bill) Diver 67.
